I just picked up the Turtle Bay X4 Wiresless XBOX 360 Surround Sound Headphones.
When using the HDMI cable you have to plug the optical into the component jack and plug the component jack in the 360 at the same time as the HDMI. I couldn’t find my 360 HDMI so I had to take apart the plastic caseing of the component jack for them both to fit. I hear the 360 HDMI is slimmer and will fit.
They are wireless and use 2 triple A batteries, I have played with the ones that came with the headphones and they are still going strong. I also bought a cheap triple a and double a battery charger in preparation for swaping them regularly.
The sound is amazing. I never really head surround sound like this except maybe the movie theater. It is true surround sound, I played Splinter Cell for my first game with them. I choose that because of how quiet everything is and when there is sound you need to now where it came from. It was amazing, you can hear exactly where things are and actually when you play old games you hear sound that you never even knew was there.
The only issue is a hiss in the headphones when you have your live mic pluged in. Some kind of feedback sound that is gone as soon as you remove the Xbox live jack. It bothered me at first but after playing you soon don’t even realize it’s there. This is a major problem for $200 and made me think about returning it but I played for about a week and really don’t even notice it anymore.
In the Splinter cell Chaos Theory Multiplayer our voices are usually hard to hear , but with these headphones my friends said that they could hear me more clearly. On my end he was kind of muffled but I don’t think I had the settings correctly. There is a voice boost and it somehow knows to turn up his voice when the music gets louder. I have played some more and got this worked out and the voices are strong through the mic and can be adjusted to you liking.
I bought these to try them out and maybe return them for a better pair but I think I’m keeping them. I never realized until I put these on how awesome surround sound was. I wish I could wear these things all the time and hear my whole life in headphone surround sound.
