What Are The Differences Between Tecmo Bowl And Tecmo Super Bowl?
Posted by Joey on Feb. 2nd, 2017
With the Super Bowl happening this Sunday, there's no better way to celebrate the event than with a few games of the retro Tecmo Bowl series. Recognized as the best football games for the NES, there are Tecmo Bowl titles on other platforms as well.
Tecmo Bowl was first released in 1989 and due to its huge success, Tecmo Super Bowl was released two years later. The first Tecmo Bowl was licensed by the National Football League Players Association, but was unable to receive an NFL team license because another NES football game, NFL, already had an exclusive licensing agreement. The sequel, Tecmo Super Bowl, did acquire an NFL license, making it the first NES game to feature real NFL players and teams.

Tecmo Bowl uses the rosters from 1989, offers 12 teams to choose from and allows you to select 4 total plays, 2 running and 2 passing. Tecmo Super Bowl uses the rosters from 1991, offers the complete league of 28 teams and doubled the number of plays giving you 8 to choose from.

Both are great games and each still have a cult following over 25 years later. Tecmo Bowl is great because it's the original that started it all, and Tecmo Super Bowl is great because of the expanded plays and teams. They are popular titles so be sure to get your copy today before they run out!
