What Was Your First Gaming Christmas?

Posted by Steven Collier on Dec. 22nd, 2015

I believe Christmas holds a special place in gamers' hearts, as it's all too often where we got our start in this great pastime. My own journey began on a Christmas in 1995, when Santa brought me a Sega Genesis, accompanied by two games; Primal Rage and Garfield: Caught In The Act. I was seven years old back then and I like to think my tastes in games has improved a little over the intervening years. However, twenty years ago, those two titles were flawless in my eyes.

But, my story is hardly unique. At this time of year, DKOldies becomes flooded with your orders for classic games and retro systems. Whether it's customers seeking to relive cherished memories or share them with a new generation, there's a real sense of homecoming that shines through the sea of orders we have to meet. Notes like "This was my favorite game growing up!" and "I can't wait to show this to my kids." fill the comments section of our online order forms.

I think it's safe to say that most of you won't be getting your first video game system this year. However, I'm sure a lot of you are getting ready to rediscover it. So, while those memories are fresh in your minds, I invite you to share your earliest experiences behind a controller. Were you grabbing an Atari joystick back in 1977? Or was it in 1986, when you first guided Mario to the Princess on your Nintendo? Or were you like me, fumbling with a Sega Genesis in 1995? No matter what your story is, we'd love to hear it.

Your passion for games only reinforces are own. Thank you for your continuing patronage, and may you enjoy the happiest of holidays.

Noel.
