Pikmin is one of GameCube's most memorable titles and with it's re-release on Wii U, now is a great time to revisit the series. It's a game that blends puzzle, real-time strategy, and adventure elements into a unique experience. You play as the astronaut Captain Olimar who has crashed into a planet inhabited with plant-like creatures called Pikmin. You can command the Pikmin to complete tasks, gather resources in the world, and attack the various enemies you encounter. Your goal is to rebuild your spaceship before your time limit of 30 days passes. Originally released in 1991 for the GameCube, the game was well received and two other sequels were later released including Pikmin 3 for the Wii U in 2013, considered one of the best exclusives for that platform.
Starting on Thursday the 29th, the game will be available to the Wii U through the Nintendo's online store, eShop. In this version of the game, users are able to control Olimar and the Pikmin using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers for a more precise game experience.
Whether you're a fan of this series, or are completely new to it, now's a great time for a replay of the original that started it all. The original Pikmin for GameCube features fun, kid-friendly gameplay. The sets are beautifully designed and take advantage of the GameCube's hardware. It's a fantastic game to show off Nintendo's programming skill and the power of the GameCube and it's still held in high regard today. If you like this style of game there are two others you might consider trying as well; Lemmings (SNES, Game Boy) and Little King's Story (Wii).
